Showcase

Welcome to my showcase!  I am very proud to give you  a snapshot of the different representations of my abilities I strenghtened during my Master of Arts in Education (MAED) program at Michigan State University. These assignments and projects have helped me to attain more knowledge on topics that are very important to me as a learner and educator. These projects and assignments have helped me grow as a teacher in more ways than I could imagine. They have helped me become a true advocate for all of my students. I have been able to expand my knowledge in different areas of special education.

Webpages

I created this website to help parents and educators alike to gather information to help their students with disabilities. As a general education teacher, I know how hard it can be to not have resources available to help teach our children with Special Needs. This website offers different Ideas on inclusion, Assistive Technology, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Sensory Processing Disorder, and more!

I created this website to show how far I have come as an educator and life long learner over the course of my MAED program. This website includes my resume, Master's projects and papers, and more. I hope it displays just how much I've learned and grown!

Powerpoints

I created this powerpoint to help educators and parents learn more about using interventions with children with Autism. Before creating the powerpoint, I read different articles that discussed interventions used with children with Autism and how it impacted their growth both in language and social skills.  The powerpoint reinforces what the articles say and stresses the importance of early intervention.  The articles helped me learn more about the importance of interventions for communication and social skills for  children with Autism. My hope is that the powerpoint helps other educators and parents as well.

In  this powerpoint,  I focused on a student of mine and his behavioral challenges. I first studied my student through a great deal of observation. I then decided on what behaviors needed to change and what interventions I thought would help the most. I implemented those interventions with my student and saw great reesults.  This powerpoint shows the process of identifying a challenging behavior, researching and  deciding on an intervention, and discovering the results of the intervention.  I hope this powerpoint gives other educators and parents a small glimpse into interventions and how they can be successful.

I created this powerpoint to help educators and parents learn more about Positive Behavioral Intervention and Support (PBIS). PBIS is a school wide approach for creating expectations and routines that will promote positive behaviors and consequences. PBIS has proven to provide positive social skills and behaviors and prevent behavioral disorders. PBIS can have a positive affect on students in the classroom, but also in life. It helps students learn how to deal with different situations in calm and positive ways. PBIS really gives students the power to deal with tough social situations. Parents and schools should all be on the same page to see the best outcome.

Documents

I made this brochure to help people understand more about a specific intellectual disability: Cognitive Impairment. The brochure breaks down what Cognitive Impairment is, who is identified as having it, and tips for general education teachers. I also offered links for parents and teachers who want more information on helping children with cognitive impairments.

This Case Study is an example of how I have gained experience working with students with ASD. Through this Case Study, I was able to develop more of an understanding of the referral process with students with ASD. During the course of my Case Study, I first had to indentify a student who I thought met the requirements for having ASD. I also looked into what interventions were being implemented and whether or not I thought those interventions were appropriate. The Case Study really takes you step by step through the process of observations made when trying to decide whether or not a student is eligible to be considered for ASD.

I created this Transition Plan for a student with Autism Spectrum Disorder. The purpse of this Transition Plan was to identify the strengths and weaknesses that this child had. After identifying the strengths and weaknesses of this child, I made a plan to help him transition into the next grade. I set goals for the child. I also decided how I would support him and his family.

Literacy is a huge part of our education. I chose a student who struggled with some literacy components and worked with him to address some of the areas that challenged him. I used different strategies and techniques to promote superior literacy skills in this student.
